Temburong
is the smaller part of Brunei, where traditional rural
lifestyles are retained, and where Brunei's remarkable
rainforest has been specially preserved in National Parks and
Forest Reserves.
Our
Temburong Lifestyle tours give visitors an insight into this
region, the lifestyles, the forests and some of the
wildlife. Just 45 minutes fast boat ride from the centre
of Bandar Seri Begawan, Temburong is very
accessible.
These
tours require less physical effort than our
eco-adventure tours in Temburong. They operate around the edges of
Temburong's rainforest, rather than traveling deep inside.
Visitors can still expect to spend time outside of
air-conditioned coaches and buildings, looking, discovering,
meeting people and experiencing the lifestyles and the
environment.
Our
local guides have grown up in the area. They have a wealth of
knowledge and experience to share.
The day and half-day Temburong Lifestyle tours are an
introduction to the area. Our overnight tours give the
opportunity to stay in the Bangar Lodge, on the edge of
Bangar town, with air conditioned motel style accommodation,
and air conditioned dining area. This accommodation gives visitors the
opportunity to explore the town in the evening, and to
conveniently access the local attractions, such as a
longhouse, jungle walks, and mini zoo.
Notes: 1. Temburong is remarkably free of biting insects,
and most visitors do not use any repellent. But some people
are more susceptible than others, so please bring your
favourite insect repellent that works for you.
2. Intrepid Tours places a high priority on visitor safety.
We have our own VHF radio network and an extensive staff
training programme. Safety equipment and operating procedures
are in line with recognised international standards.

cultivation and rainforest. Riding the water taxi from BSB
through mangrove lined rivers gives an idea of the vast marine
nursery. Look around Bangar town to discover the local market
produce, followed by morning tea in a nearby cafe. A visit to
the mini zoo, established by an Operation Raleigh group, is a
chance to see some of the rainforest's secretive
wildlife. A gentle rainforest walk is an introduction to
the eco-system, and the backyard of some local longhouse
communities. Lunch at our BangarLodge, in the
air conditioned dining room. A longhouse
visit (with dance display for groups of 9 plus) gives a change
to interact with the local community and see how they live.

Description: This overnight tour gives time to fully enjoy the Temburong
lifestyle, and to relax in the evening amidst the jungle
sounds and community activities adjacent to our Bangar
Lodge. The morning is cool and pleasant, with birds and other
wildlife active; some guests request an early wake up so they
can relax on our veranda or take a short walk as the day comes
alive.
The
tour begins with a water taxi ride from BSB through mangrove
lined rivers and this vast marine nursery. A longhouse visit
(with dance display for groups of 9 plus) gives a change to
interact with the local community, enjoy afternoon tea, and
see how they live. Visit the Batang Duri mini zoo, established by an
Operation Raleigh group, to see some of the
rainforest's secretive wildlife. Arrive at our Bangar Lodge to enjoy the evening and have dinner
in the air conditioned dining room. In
the morning enjoy a rainforest walk (tell our guide how active
you want to be); learn
about the local eco-system, and see the crop
areas of some local longhouse communities. Morning tea before
returning to Bangar town to walk around the shops
and explore the local market stalls. How many varieties of
rice do they grow and why? Return to Bandar
Seri Begawan by water taxi.
Selirong Mangrove Island
is part of Temburong. With
up to 2 kms of walkways built above the high water level, it
provides an almost too good to be true opportunity to be
inside a real mangrove island without getting wet or muddy.
These tours begin with an early morning boat ride across the
inner (protected) section of Brunei Bay and into the network
of channels that lead to walkways. The mangroves and their
channels are the nursery for much of Brunei Bay's
marine life. After the visit to Selirong Mangrove Island
re-board the boat and ride up the Temburong River to Bangar.

cultural lifestyle experience in Temburong. The walk at Selirong
Mangrove Island is along specially constructed wooden
walkways, with plenty of places to stop and view the activity,
either in the trees, along the mangrove roots, or in the water
and mud. Proboscis Monkeys, Macaques, Monitor Lizards and a
wide range of water and tree dwelling birds are commonly seen.
The dawn boat ride across Brunei Bay is an experience in
itself. At about 0830 the tour leaves Selirong Island by boat for
Temburong.
